The Power Of The Words We Use
by Keith Zang
The spoken word is a form of energy that can be very powerful. This power can be used for the good of all, the detriment of many, or as useless background noise that is barely heard. Often times the words we use in interacting with others holds more power than we realize. It is important when interacting with others, especially if we are on a spiritual path, to focus our energies on creating positive words to help encourage others, or as helpful advice to aid in healing emotional traumas. In doing so we will help to spread a positive ness that can have a much greater impact on others than we initially perceive. Such a situation occurred with me, who's impact stretched through years, eventually reconnecting to the spiritual realms.
I was in high school on the South Side of Chicago in the late 70's and early 80's. There was an area of forest preserve very near my house that I and several other friends would visit on a regular basis. It was a chance for us to get away from the city environment and connect with a bit of natural energy that we always seemed to crave. One evening a friend, Bill, and myself went to our regular spot to converse and talk about things that seemed important at the time. At one point Bill began to share with me how distressed he was becoming over the expectations of his family and himself. He had a lot of misgivings about his future and his ability to move forward with his life. He became so distraught that at one point he began to cry in total frustration and confusion. Being only 17, I shared with him words of advice and as much help that I could, which seemed to help him out a lot. We did not speak again of that evening, and in fact I had forgotten about it totally.
Bill went on to join the navy and became a fighter pilot, flying F-16's from an aircraft carrier. He became one of the best in his class and was considered a "Top Gun." He eventually married and had children. His marriage soon became very unhappy, and his desire to stay in the Navy as a pilot began to wane. He switched to flying Apache Helicopters in the hopes of bringing something different to his life. Bill and I were both very different people. His was a life of war, mine of peace. By the time Desert Shield came along in 1990, I was in the Peace Corps in Papua New Guinea. I did not know it at the time but I was a source of inspiration for Bill to get out of the military and do something different with his life. He would not get the chance. Bill was shot down and killed in his Apache helicopter rescuing downed fighter pilots.
I received the news soon after I returned from Papua New Guinea in late 1990. I was saddened but not surprised, as I knew Bill was in the middle of the war. Soon after Bill crossed into spirit, he began to come to my dreams. He was never overtly involved in the dreams, but he would be more in the periphery, sitting and watching. Often times I would go to him in my dreams and talk to him, say hello, and ask him questions about how he was doing. I was not psychically "in tune" then but I knew it was him communicating with me letting me know that he was OK.
In 1998 I began to be very interested in spiritual mediumship after my Reiki 1 attunement and my subsequent self-awareness. I soon connected with a medium that was very open and well versed in bridging to the spiritual realms. Bill was one of the first people I connected with. The medium, who called her self Star, quickly connected to Bill. She relayed the information about the day that Bill and I were in the Chicago forest preserves and the impact it had on him. She described the scene perfectly down to the path we were on and the surrounding area. He relayed through her that he was at the point of taking his own life and that the words that I spoke to him that evening convinced him otherwise. He wanted to thank me for the time I spent with him, and the encouragement that he received that evening.
After hearing those words from him, I was taken aback. Not only had I completely forgotten about the incident, as it had occurred 18 years in the past, but I had no idea of the significance of that evening. After comprehending the importance of what was being relayed to me, I truly felt the impact of that time we spent together. I then held out my hands, palm upward, and asked Bill to come forward and place his hands on mine. I instantly felt his presence and the tingling energy of his hands on my own. I broke out into tears of joy/sadness. I intuitively knew that Bill was doing the same, and this fact was soon relayed by Star. This was my first real experience with spiritual connecting on not only a higher plane, but also in connecting on the physical plane as well. The experience was quite intense which spurred me on to further my studies into becoming a medium as well. Soon I was able to connect with Bill myself as well as many others that have crossed over to the other side.
It is very important how we interact with each other whether that person is a loved family member or friend, or a complete stranger. It is crucial if we are to continue to develop as a people, and even more specifically if we are to develop as individuals, that each time we interact with one another, we stay conscious of the power that our words hold. If we intention and work towards creating positive words and phrases, not only will that help others, but it will also create a lot more positive energy around ourselves and continue the cycle of positive growth and enlightenment. Soon, all manner of situations and relationships around us will be of a higher energetic frequency. Those that are not, we can help become more so through our words. The more we can catch ourselves speaking negatively to others, and instead focus our power on growth and healing, the quicker we will grow as individuals, and the more unspoken healing that will occur. Healing which will even transcend after physical death, and into the spiritual realms.
